Agile Coaching

Agile Coaching cultivates the capabilities of each team member in their specific roles and enables them to deliver customer value rapidly. Agile coaches embed with your delivery teams, management (and if needed executives) and help in navigating through real-world challenges in embedding Agile culture, habits and style of working.

Agile Coaching centres around building out both technical capabilities that yield better products or services (not just software) faster and workflow capabilities that enable team members to deliver greater customer value. Agile Coaching solution focuses first on assessing a team’s baseline capabilities and then helping you create a custom program to build out each team member’s skills, techniques and knowledge.

Proven track record

Our team has been supporting management, the managerial staff, and development teams since 2010. We are one of the first organizations in Poland to adopt agile methods.

Initially, as engineers/programmers, we started with an approach that is now grandly called ‘Programmer Anarchy,’ gradually transitioning towards Scrum and Kanban. Today, we are practitioners with agile experience gained from over 10 agile transformations in Poland and Europe, listing key achievements:

  • ABCData / Also Polska
  • Asseco Poland S.A. (Commercial Banks Division)
  • Bank BGŻ BNP Paribas Polska S.A. (Retail Banking Division and Transformation Division)
  • Bank Zachodni WBK S.A. (BZ WBK)

Agile Coaching is a professional service that involves supporting the client on their journey towards an ever-unattainable and undefined ‘excellence.’ This is achieved through active, daily coaching, advice (which distinguishes Agile Coaching from typical coaching in the understanding of the ICF and ICC institutes), mentoring, training, and constant exchange of experiences.

The positive impact of an Agile Coach

Whether your organization is just beginning its journey with agility or dealing with the challenges of an ongoing agile transformation or a pilot agile project, Agile Coaching is an ideal addition to enhance the maturity of the entire production process (not just IT teams).

Thanks to the work of an Agile Coach (and newly appointed or recruited Scrum Master), working hand in hand with client teams, the teams will significantly improve their effectiveness, predictability, and reliability through observation and learning in the project battlefield.

by Lyssa Adkins and Michael Spayd

Agile Coaching Competency Framework

Professional Coaching – Ability to act as a coach, with the client’s interest determining the direction, rather than the coach’s expertise or opinion.
Facilitating – Neutral process holder that guides the individual’s, team’s, or organization’s process of discovery, holding to their purpose and definition of success.
Transformation Mastery – Ability to facilitate, catalyze and (as appropriate) lead organizational change and transformation. This area draws on change management, organization culture, organization development, systems thinking, and other behavioral sciences.
Business Mastery – Ability to apply business strategy and management frameworks to employ agile as a competitive business advantage such as Lean Start-Up, product innovation techniques, flow-based business process management approaches, and other techniques that relate to innovating in the business domain.
Technical Mastery – Ability to get your hands dirty architecting, designing, coding, test engineering, or performing some other technical practice, with a focus on promoting technical craftsmanship through example and teaching-by-doing. And, expertise in agile scaling patterns or structures.
Mentoring – Ability to impart one’s experience, knowledge and guidance to help grow another in the same or similar knowledge domains.
Teaching – Ability to offer the right knowledge, at the right time, taught in the right way, so that individuals, teams and organizations metabolize the knowledge for their best benefit.

Facilitating: facilitating increases the effectiveness of a group of people to align in a collaborative way, to interpret their context, and mutually identify the most valuable outcomes desired. A facilitator has the skills to create a neutral environment of openness, safety, and innovation in a group setting.
Guide Learning: guide learning is about effectively growing an individual, a group, or a team’s skills and enabling them to be competent and resourceful. With this competency, you choose the most effective learning method to help the learner achieve their learning objectives and inspire future learning.

  • learning teams to solve problems and implement improvements on their own,
  • obtaining an objective, impartial and not politically related to the organization’s cultural perspective enabling a better, without emotional assessment of the situation in order to identify and implement improvements,
  • problem-solving together with the Coach along with the knowledge and know-how transfer during coaching, so that the client is independent of the Coach in the long run and can carry out further development independently,
  • we impose ready-made solutions – we allow them to reach them together,
  • work in the real context and client’s problems (in contrast to the training room),
