Non-linear experience in IT

I have nearly two decades of professional experience in the field of information technology, starting from roles as a programmer and web designer. Over the years, my interest has evolved towards working as a business and systems analyst to better understand systems and architecture. At various stages of my career, I have taken on different roles such as administrator, IT architect, corporate architect, project manager, auditor, and Chief Operating Officer (COO). With the perspective of time, thanks to this diversity, I am fully aware of where I excel the most, the kind of people I enjoy working with, and the collaboration style that best fits my personality and predispositions.

At this moment, I consider myself primarily a strategic advisor and a change agent. I assist other organizations (not limited to IT departments) in transitioning to ‘modern’ management styles: Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Lean Startup, Design Sprint, Design Thinking, Liberating Structures, Management 3.0, Team Topologies, DevOps, and related approaches.

Additionally, I serve on the Supervisory Board of the company eco5Tech.

Startups and big corporations

My experience encompasses diverse projects, ranging from small websites to comprehensive e-commerce systems. I have been involved in healthcare systems, corporate portals for public institutions, and participation in building commercial eCommerce platforms, some of which generate an annual revenue of around 10 billion Polish złoty.

Successes and failures have reinforced my belief that a good approach to user interface (UI), user experience (UX), customer experience (CX), and a focus on value are consistently valuable in the capitalist world. On the other hand, I have learned how complex a technical challenge it can be to build and maintain systems in the public sector or in the realm of corporate banking transaction systems within a highly regulated environment and under the supervision of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF). In other words, the broadly conceived and often referred to as the ‘Enterprise’ world.

These two seemingly distinct worlds in IT have shown me that there are no simple answers. What is natural and routine in one organization may be unthinkable and unacceptable in procedures and policies governed by Governance in another. Naturally, I began asking questions, seeking answers, and exploring my internal doubts and dilemmas…

Steve Jobs

A lot of people in our industry haven’t had very diverse experiences. So they don’t have enough dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solutions without a broad perspective on the problem. The broader one’s understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have.”

“Listen to your users to understand their problems.
Don’t listen to your users when it comes to building the solution. That’s your job.”

From JEE/PHP developer to Supervisory Board Member

I manage my profession methodically. Earlier, as a software developer, valuable and intuitive software and services (as well as clean code and technical excellence) were always appreciated by me. I learned that in the ever-changing environment of new technologies, you will never achieve perfection, and things will never be fully finished, period.

This never-ending stream of value got me to understand new disciplines like entrepreneurship, project and product management, leadership, servant leadership, personality traits, management 3.0, and many more. A never-ending and ever-growing journey of self-development that brought me the opportunity to be a Supervisory Board Member at eco5Tech.

Now I’m bold enough to question the surrounding world openly (yet respecting others), defending what is most important: the user experience and the value that product or service brings to him or her.

Mentors that shaped me

Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to work closely with people who taught me how to invest time in valuable ideas, how to organize my work, and how to build a healthy culture for me and my team. Those were valuable lessons for life. A grand journey through experimentation, hypothesis, verification, adaptation, analysis, drawing conclusions, and adapting to the surrounding environment. A lesson that still lasts to this day. A true personal and professional development lesson. I am extremely happy and thankful for this period to be able to continue.

Right now, I’m actively engaged in many mentoring activities. I am helping others and giving them the same support I received earlier.

Empiricism

Getting my hands dirty and not losing time is key to any empirical experience. The more we experience in our lives (both personally and professionally) and the more we will be engaged in the current issues that the board, management, teams, and individuals are facing, the more we can understand in order to improve their working environment. Just make things happen, simple as that.

Enterprise Lean-Agile Transformational Coach

I view myself as an entrepreneur and change leader with rich international business, technical, soft-skilled, and change management experience.

I’ve coached many company owners, C-Suite / C-level management, board members, and teams in order to make them aware of the benefits and threats stemming from agile and digital transformations and cultural changes.

Agile / Lean / Digital Transformations

From an operational standpoint (as a change agent), my job is to transform organizations (not just IT) towards more efficient and effective ones (including cultural changes). Supporting the organizations on the way to being “agile” or “lean”, by shaping a tailored environment (sometimes using the Scrum Studio approach or Kanban STATIK), we allow for creative work to happen.

You can call them agile organizations, you can call them digital transformation. The name, process, framework or approach does not matter, what matters is what works and which positive change we can spot and measure.

Whatever one would call me, I am simply a person who values balance, a change management approach with measurable data, and a healthy work atmosphere. I try to share my knowledge and coach, mentor, or teach others, passing on my “know-how” to make them fully independent and better than themself from the day before.

Values

The values that I treasure: transparency, creativity, courage, engagement, adaptability, openness, constant development, respect and cooperation.
